Statement on NSW Electricity Privatisation
4 June 2015
“The passage of legislation on the privatisation of energy assets in NSW is an important gain for the people of NSW, and will help drive the state government’s investment in much-needed new infrastructure,” BCA spokesman Scott Thompson said.
“Privatisation has been successfully implemented around Australia for many years, and the NSW Parliament’s actions will deliver clear benefits to electricity users and the community.
“The sale of these assets will help unlock funding for the state government to invest in the infrastructure projects that NSW needs.
“A privatised electricity system will also see a more efficiently managed sector, greater competition and choice for consumers, and downward pressure on prices. This has been the clear experience in other states which have gone down this path.
“The NSW Government is setting a great example for states who continue to hold onto their energy assets by bringing them to market, and delivering the many benefits of privatisation for consumers and the broader community,” Mr Thompson said.
