Jennifer Westacott

Jennifer Westacott
Chief Executive

Jennifer Westacott took up the role of Chief Executive at the BCA in April 2011. Previously, she was a Director and National Lead Partner at KPMG, heading up the firm’s Sustainability, Climate Change and Water practice and its NSW State Government practice. Jennifer has extensive policy experience in both the public and private sectors. For over 20 years Jennifer occupied critical leadership positions in the New South Wales and Victorian Governments including the Director of Housing and the Secretary of Education in Victoria, and the Director-General of the New South Wales Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources. Jennifer has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of New South Wales where she is an Adjunct Professor at the City Research Futures Centre. She was a Chevening Scholar at the London School of Economics.  In October 2012 Jennifer was appointed as a National Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration Australia, and in April 2013 was appointed as a Non-Executive Director of Wesfarmers Limited.

   
Maria Tarrant

Deputy Chief Executive and Company Secretary

Maria Tarrant joined the Business Council of Australia in 2001. Prior to her appointment as Deputy Chief Executive she held the position of Director Policy, taking the lead in policy development in areas as diverse as education and training, workplace relations, infrastructure, energy policy and climate change.
Maria came to the Business Council of Australia having worked in both the public and private sectors for over 20 years, bringing senior-level experience in business development, policy development and project management in the fields of infrastructure, education services, human resources management and marketing. Prior to joining the BCA she was Chief Executive of RMIT Training P/L from its start-up, where she was responsible for the development of a new commercial entity providing a range of services to industry internationally. Maria holds a Bachelor of Arts (Economics), a Graduate Diploma in Industrial Relations and a Master of Commerce, all from the University of Melbourne.

   
Peter Crone

Peter Crone
Chief Economist and Director Policy

Peter is a macroeconomist with a deep perspective on the operation of the Australian economy and financial system, and possesses high-level experience in public policy formulation. Immediately prior to joining the Business Council of Australia, Peter worked for Access Capital Advisers where he provided investment advice to a number of Australian superannuation funds. Before that, he worked as a senior adviser with Access Economics. From 1997 to 2005 Peter was Senior Economic Adviser to Prime Minister John Howard. He also served as an adviser to the Premier of Victoria, Jeff Kennett. Peter has held a number of company directorships and has previously worked in the Commonwealth Treasury. He holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from the University of Western Australia and a Master of Economics from the Australian National University.

   
Claire Tedeschi

Executive Director, Communications and Advocacy

Claire Tedeschi joined the Business Council of Australia in 2010. Previously she has worked as a news reporter, feature writer and columnist for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Sun-Herald, a researcher in SBS Television’s current affairs department and as Papua New Guinea correspondent for The Australian. Since leaving day-to-day journalism she has worked in a number of strategic communications roles, most recently with Reconciliation Australia where she was part of the executive management team. Claire has served as a federal ministerial media adviser in the Keating Government and as speechwriter to the Governor-General. As a communications consultant, her clients included the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the National Council for the Centenary of Federation, the Office of the Status of Women, Optus, the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation and the Inquiry into Australia’s Immigration System.

   
Jarrod Ball

Jarrod Ball
Director Policy

Jarrod Ball joined the Business Council of Australia in 2010. Prior to his appointment as Director Policy, he held the position of Manager Strategy and Research in the BCA, working across a range of areas of policy development including tax, regulation, fiscal policy, energy policy and Commonwealth–state relations. Before joining the BCA, he worked as an economic adviser on competition and regulation policy for the Victorian Departments of Premier and Cabinet and Treasury and Finance. He also has federal government and private sector experience, including as a Manager in Ernst & Young’s advisory services practice.
Jarrod holds bachelor’s degrees in Business (Economics) and Arts, and is currently completing a Master of Economics at Monash University.

   
Simon Pryor

Simon Pryor
Director Policy

Simon joined the Business Council of Australia in 2007 as an economist with a mix of commercial, financial and policy experience. He has previously worked in the airline and telecommunications sectors in Australia and the United Kingdom, and as an economics and policy adviser for a leading Australian public policy consultancy. Immediately before joining the Business Council of Australia, Simon was an adviser on industry policy in the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet. Simon has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Melbourne and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment.

   
Marion Terrill

Marion Terrill
Director Policy

Marion Terrill joined the Business Council of Australia in 2012. Her appointment builds on a long career in public policy, most recently as a senior executive with the Department of Finance and Deregulation, where she initiated and led whole-of-government service delivery reform for the Australian Government. Marion has worked in Treasury, including as Manager of Individuals’ Tax and a member of the secretariat for the Henry tax review. She has also worked in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and in the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs on income support, family assistance, superannuation, poverty and income distribution issues. Marion has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), a Master of Arts, and a Graduate Diploma in Economics, and has worked in the Economics Program at ANU’s Research School of Social Sciences.
